Library Services for Alumni & Community

Accessing the Libraries

Visitors without a Gull Card, including SU alumni and members of other USMAI institutions, are welcome to enter the building during the GAC's Visitor Access Hours.

Access outside of these hours is offered on a limited, case-by-case basis for academic research and study purposes only. Documentation of academic affiliation is required. If you qualify, you can . Visitor Access Cards are no longer available to members of the general public.

Services

Online Library Account Access
Alumni and Community Patrons can access their library accounts online to:
- renew items you have checked out
- check the status of your loans
- update your personal information
- view your outstanding fines and fees
- request books from other USMAI campuses (fee required)
To access your account:
1. . Choose "Community Borrower" when prompted.
2. If this is the first time you are logging in, click "Set or Reset Password" to set up your account.
  - Enter your 14-digit library barcode number or the email address on file with the library.
  - You will receive an email with instructions to set a password.
  - After setting your password, click "Sign In" again and choose "Community Borrower" to get back to the login screen.
3. Enter your 14-digit library barcode from the back of your library card and your account password to sign in.
4. Once signed in, click your name in the upper right corner and choose "Library Card" to access your account details.
Computer Usage

Community users are welcome to use computers in the Guerrieri Academic Commons for research, within the guidelines of the . Wi-Fi access is available for personal devices. To use our computers or access the Wi-Fi, bring a photo ID to the Library Service Desk and complete the necessary form.
Printing Services

Black and white prints cost 10¢ per page and must be directed to print to the Library Service Desk. Color prints are also available for 50¢ per page. Community patrons need to use a computer located in the Pit on the first floor of the GAC and should select the following printers when sending print jobs:

Black and White: AC146-CIRC
Color: AC146-HPCP5225

We accept cash and check. VISA, MasterCard, and Apple Pay are also accepted but include a $5 minimum. Patrons are responsible for paying for all pages they send to the printer, so please use Print Preview to select the correct pages before printing.

Double-sided prints are treated as two pages.
Borrowing Materials
Community members over the age of 18 and living in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, or Dorchester counties and any SU alumni may register for a Special Borrower Card at the Library Service Desk in the Guerrieri Academic Commons. The levels of Special Borrower cards are:
- Community Borrower: free, may have 3 SU circulating items checked out at any given time.
- Guest Borrower: $30 annual fee, allows unlimited borrowing of SU circulating items.
- Patron Level Borrower: $50 annual fee, allows unlimited borrowing of SU circulating items and 10 Interlibrary Loans per year.
- SU President’s Club members: no fee, allows unlimited borrowing of SU circulating items and 10 Interlibrary Loans per year.
Community members must complete a registration form and present valid photo ID and proof of residence upon registration. There is a $25 replacement fee for all lost Special Borrower Cards. A new card will not be issued until any outstanding fines have been fully paid.

After registering, you must present your Special Borrower Card to check out materials. Within the SU Libraries collection, Special Borrowers may borrow books, general collection DVDs, and headphones. Other items are reserved only for SU Gull Card holders. You are responsible for all materials charged on your card and should be present whenever your card is used.

Most books are loaned for 28 days, and renewals may be requested using the online Library Accounts feature available from the Libraries home page. Renewals also may be made by phone (410-543-6130) or in person at the Library Service Desk.
Government Documents

SU is both a Federal Depository Library—the only one on the Lower Eastern Shore—and a Maryland State Depository Library, providing free access to printed government documents to all citizens, residents, and visitors. University Archives

If you are an alumnus/a of SU or a community member with significant materials relating to SU’s past—scrapbooks from your student days, a diary you kept while on campus, letters home, records of a student organization you were active in—and you would like to donate them to the University Archives, please contact Jennifer Pulsney. With the centennial of SU’s founding coming up in 2025, we are looking for records documenting student life. More information on the University Archives can be found at the Nabb Center website.
Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture

The Nabb Center houses outstanding collections on Delmarva’s history and genealogy as well as the University Archives and Special Collections. We welcome members of the community to do research, attend lectures, view exhibits, and volunteer. If you have family diaries and letters, organizational records, business ledgers, or similar materials, please consider donating them. For more information, see the Nabb Center website.
