Resources for Rethinking Assessments

When designing a course, assessments are key to determining if students are successfully achieving disciplinary competency and therefore meeting course learning objectives. However, as faculty consider what students need to do to demonstrate disciplinary comprehension, a primary question is how to handle assessments, particularly when faculty want to break away from multiple choice tests that tend to demonstrate a students' ability to cram and memorize information for short-term use. How could assessments be designed to promote a deeper understanding of your course content?
